Since 2008 our President, Mario Matos, has been a dedicated short-term missionary.  His commitment to helping others was evident during some of our nations most challenging times.  After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and Sandy, Mario didn’t hesitate to jump into action.  He made multiple trips to aid the recovery efforts, bringing supplies and offering his expertise wherever it was needed.  His skills as a tradesman have also taken him to the Ivory Coast where he installed plumbing in a girls school and then to Belize and Guatemala where he provided hands on assistance. 
In 2014 Mario first went to San Pedro De Macoris in the Dominican Republic. His instant connection  with the young men and their struggles to get ahead touched his heart deeply.  The reality is it is nearly impossible to focus on anything with empty stomach.  Food insecurity and lack of housing were the most prevalent issues.  Thus, the goal of A Hand Up Group to provide housing and food which will allow families hope for the future.
